China Town Tour

Tuesday — August 21

Departure - 9:00 a.m.

Return - 5:00 p.m.

Upon our arrival in Chinatown we will be joined by a local guide who will take us behind the scenes to experience this fantastic neighborhood.

We will visit:

  • Nine Dragon Wall, a recently established landmark in Chinatown, which was made of 3,200 glazed tiles with nine dragon designs.
  • The Chinatown Mural, made of hand-painted tiles depicting the history of the Chinese coming to America.
  • Chinatown Square, filled with sculptures of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
  • Wentworth Avenue, the historic commercial district filled with shops, restaurants, and historic landmarks (the Chinatown Gate, the On Leong Tong Building, and the Buddhist Temple).

A fun dumpling making workshop and an authentic Chinese meal have been added to your Chinatown tour to make it a unique cultural experience. Dating back to the Song Dynasty, these delicious dumplings are one of China’s oldest and most popular dishes. The Dumpling making includes storytelling, hands on dumpling making workshop and a complete meal! The menu consists of: Vietnamese Spring Roll, Crab Rangoon, Chicken and Sweet Corn Soup, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Walnut Shrimp, Mongolian Beef, Vegetable Fried Rice and Cabbage Chicken Dumpling.

After lunch there will be free time to shop and visit the bakeries, gift stores, teahouses and candy stores in Chinatown!

Tickets at $65 include transportation, tour, and lunch.

Tickets must be bought by July 26th!

Cantigny Park Tour

Tuesday — October 2

Departure - 9:00 a.m.

Return - 4:00 p.m.

We will depart from Township Hall on our luxury motor coach and head to the Cantigny Visitors Center in Wheaton which was built by Colonel Robert R. McCormick as one of his horse stables. The Visitors Center served as the First Division Museum from the early 1960’s until the new museum opened in 1993. As you enter the Visitors Center and walk into the main gallery, your attention is drawn to a giant floor map. Built at 1/25 scale to accurately reflect the Cantigny estate, visitors are encouraged to walk over the map and take in a birds-eye view of Cantigny. During this trip there will be time to explore on your own.

Next, stop is the Visitors Center Theater to enjoy a 10 minute orientation film that highlights Cantigny’s attractions. Outside the theater, a large, painted collage chronicles Colonel McCormick’s life.

There will be a full guided tour of the first floor of the Robert R. McCormick Museum.

At Bertie’s Cafe we will enjoy a lunch of either house smoked pulled pork BBQ on a toasted butter bun with pickle; or chicken pesto panini which consists of grilled chicken, pesto, roasted red peppers and provolone. Both entrees are served with kettle chips and coffee or tea. To conclude our day we will have a 60 minute narrated tour, amidst the flourishing trees, shrubbery and perennials, highlighting plant collections in gardens and natural areas, seasonal blossoms and horticultural and natural history.

Tickets are $40 for transportation, tour and lunch.

Tickets must be bought by September 17th!

The Vito Zatto Show

Wednesday — October 24

Departure - 11:00 a.m.

Return - 4:00 p.m.

Our destination will be The Arcada Theatre in St. Charles Illinois where we will enjoy the music and comedy of The Vitto Zatto Show.

We will begin our journey by entering through a secret door located in the library next to a 1920’s shoeshine stand. On your left will be the Prohibition Lounge, a quiet “getaway” from the party. Then you will see Louis Armstrong’s Speakeasy Bar, a copper and bronze room flanked by a 48-star flag from the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago, a 125-year-old cash register and 100-year-old beer taps. Over fifty bourbons, bathtub gin and deliciously creative concoctions are available. Continue walking, on your right is Charlie Chaplin’s “Little Tramp” Room, where you will see a five-foot 1908 shutter camera and original spotlights and stage lights from 1926 era Arcada Theatre. Adding to the experience in that room are the classic Chaplin film posters and photos with historic black and white films projected directly onto the wall. Then you will enter the “Fred & Ginger” Room, the main showroom, breathtaking and intimate, with a professional dance floor, muraled walls, an exquisite thousand crystal chandelier and priceless antiques. In the showroom is the stage where some of the finest entertainers in the world have performed for an intimate audience.

We will then see Vito Zatto, who is a Vegas style singer and entertainer. Vito has earned a reputation for delivering quick witted, spontaneous and high energy entertainment.

Lunch menu will be an Italian Festival Buffet which consists of cheese ravioli, meatballs, garden salad, bread and dessert.

Tickets are $65 for transportation, show and lunch.

Tickets must be bought by September 21st!
